lynx561“Don’t Hate ‘Cuz You Can’t Relate”

I just don’t understand. On a lot of NES sites, I see people bashing the newer consoles, whether it’s because of the fact that they focus more on graphics or their sound or whatever. Don’t get me wrong the NES still is, in my opinion, the greatest console out there, but that doesn’t mean you have to hate the newer systems just because the NES started it. If it weren’t for consoles building upon one another, videogames would be a pretty unpopular industry. Even though a game comes out every once in a while that doesn’t focus as much on the gameplay as it does on the graphics, that’s no different than some games on the NES. In fact there a lot of NES games that focused on other things besides the gameplay in order to make a more successful game. Take (about) all the games that Nintendo made and you’ve got an example. Sure those games were great, but they really weren’t any better than a lot of games that weren’t hyped up as much.

The NES was like the console that pioneered a lot of videogame ideas, some were successful, some not, but videogames today still try and develop original ideas while still building upon a certain foundation. There are probably some Atari fans that say the NES ripped a lot of its ideas for games from Atari games. While this is true, it built upon the idea and turned it into a better game. Just as games today take ideas from games of the past and build on it.

What I’m getting at is that the only difference in these consoles is the time period they came out in. I can have a blast going over to a friend’s house and playing Grand Theft Auto 3, just as I would have a blast going over to a friend’s house and playing Super Mario Bros 3 when I was younger. If a game is fun, don’t hate it just because it rips off another game, or doesn’t focus on the gameplay as much as it should. If you over-analyze anything, you’re probably going to find the bad in it before you find the good. So next time you play your NES, think about how much it has helped the turned the gaming industry into a form of pop culture, rather than how it started it all and that all the new stuff is just a load of shit.
