Introduction to Seduction
Back in the early NES days there weren’t any rating systems. Nintendo’s strict guidelines and play testing before a game could be released and the company’s rule over licenses made no need for one. Games were pretty much suitable for everyone.
In 2001, we see things have changed greatly from those times of innocence to the now and current formation of the ESRB (Entertainment System Ratings Board) ratings.
Although ESRB ratings on games first appeared during the final reign of the NES, one company – Panesian – broke down every boundary imaginable. There was finally a need for some warning.
Nintendo posted ads in Nintendo Power (such as the above pic of mario) to make parents aware of these types and other unlicensed games (any company not willing to pay a license to develop NES games = devil worshippers and strictly taboo).
Jumping forward 10 years later, every game is now rated by ESRB in bigger and bolder letters. (To be fair, though, on the back of these Panesian porno game boxes, in tiny lettering, reads: “For Adult Only”. Would it be fair to accredit Panesian for the ESRB ratings box? I doubt it.) Recently senators are taking stands on violent and sexual situation games and some even promoting banning them. Of course, you wouldn’t see any unlicensed Playstation or 64 games to local stores because of the now strict ruling of modern systems…well, if there were any even available.
Still, whenever something is “banned”, a chunk of our independence is destroyed. Ratings are good–but banning hurts game companies, game systems, and most importantly gamers. That doesn’t mean I expect to see a licensed or unlicensed a 64- bit porno game without a Hong Kong based-pirate catalog. At least not in the US.
Panesian’s feeble intentions of arousing college kids worked – I think – but little did they know that games of this kind were the beginning sparks of some of the flames for today’s games. Currently that spark has turned into an all out bonfire war about some (non-pornographic) games, specifically, the realistic shooters, action genre, and fighting titles. This blaze will continue to burn until there IS liberal action done to prevent further censorship.

Today’s Panesian
What I found very surprising is, after doing a simple search for the company to see if one Panesian actually still existed, a www.panesian.com site popped up (followed by my mouth opening in utter shock). After searching said site for a while I found out the company sells MAG 14″-21″computer monitors (a tad different from Nintendo porn games, eh?). If curiosity killed the cat, and I was a cat, I’m sure would have been dead for I did a little more research on other database pages and found out that this monitor-selling company is actually based and associated in Hong Kong.
