You Better Work It, Eggplant Wizard

A professional Massachusetts artist named Karen Hallion wowed me today with this awesomikus Kid Icarus design.

She writes in:

“Check out “The Yetee” shirt site today! Kid Icarus design…4 days only…”

I know what I like, and I definitely like Ike. An “Icarus Nouveau” t-shirt will run you $11 bucks. So, go ahead, and make a serious fashion statement the next time you’re out to pick up a slice of eggplant pizza.

Nintendo Player: Still Playing On

by Mike on September 3rd, 2011 at 8:43 pm
Posted In: Site Updates

After ten years, it was time for a change.

Enter Nintendo Player.

The official name of the site has changed to Nintendo Player, and can be located at the URL: http://www.nintendoplayer.com. Don’t worry; focus will remain on the original NES and all of your favorite eight-bit classics. (NESPlayer.com will remain registered, and its pages archived for posterity.)

In addition to the name change, the site has received a massive overhaul in layout and connectivity. You can now directly comment on updates, share pages with social networking sites, find that article you’re looking for fast with a fully-functional search engine, and navigate more easily with the use of upper sub-page links and the top rollover menu. Go ahead, explore. I ensure you that this time it’s not dangerous to go alone.

And the front page blog here will allow me to update more often. (I promise I will try to update more often.)

Speaking of which, make sure you subscribe to the site’s RSS feed to be the first to know about future content. Are you on Twitter? Follow @Nintendo_Player to receive word of the latest news. FaceBook? I’ve got a page for that! My e-mail address has changed, too, so if you would like to privately talk to me for any reason, please use the contact form.

On a final note: Nintendo Player is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo. This has always been a non-profit fan site that relies on gaming-related ads and donations to cover the administrative costs. If you would like to help out, please consider donating. Your support is greatly appreciated.

New Nintendo-Inspired Jukebox

by Mike on August 26th, 2011 at 7:33 pm
Posted In: Site Updates

The site now has its own online jukebox of Nintendo-inspired music: The jukebox button on the right opens a new window, so you can keep surfing while you rock out. The playlist includes everything from NES cover bands to big band orchestras that span several musical genres. And to break things up, there’s also Japanese remixes, Nintendo TV theme songs, and game commercial jingles. I’ll keep adding more as time goes on. (E-mail me your song requests!)

What do an ancient clan of ninjas, Vanilla Ice, and Mortal Kombat have in common? Why, the Ninja Turtles, of course! Game Actors, the newest page to the TMNT II: Arcade Game feature, has me talking to Daniel Pesina (the real-life Johnny Cage).

Power Glove Love Flash Game, 50 Games Plug’N Play

Power Glove your way through five exciting levels as Lucas Barton, the lovable badass from The Wizard, in the site’s latest Flash game: Power Glove Love. It’s so bad—in a good way!

If you get stuck, consult this video playthrough.

Jon Ralston sent me some photos of a new pirate system called 50 Games Plug’N Play. It’s sold at Family Dollar stores for ten bucks, and looks to have some interesting hacks of licensed games like Super C and Ice Hockey. Mario Brothers, for instance, has been renamed Rouge Brothers.
