Editor’s Note: In September of 2005, a man who chose to remain anonymous to the public contacted me. He asked to be called “Captain.”

Captain chose Nintendo Player to publish his saga as a former Nintendo Power editor-in-chief during the magazine’s beginning years. The brains behind the legendary NES icon character, Captain Nintendo, the real Captain and I first threw around the idea of doing a single interview. However, given the scope and the many wild experiences he wished to share with fans, I would instead work out an arrangement with Captain to publish chapters in a memoir format. This, in turn, would provide a more detailed look inside the company and industry during the NES days.
